When it comes to asbestos, you can’t take any risks. Our staff are members of the Asbestos Removal Management Institute (ARMI). Our team provides you with guidance on safety and legislation for all types of commercial property. We protect by taking the right approach for you, your property, your business, and the wider public.
The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) licence allows Starfish Environmental & Asbestos Services to work with asbestos under the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012. Our licence brings enormous responsibility, and our team carries out all aspects of the investigation and works with the utmost care and attention, backed by our experience and knowledge, mitigating risks to health and the environment.
As a Licensed Asbestos Removal Contractor (LARC), we will manage every aspect of your project from initial contact to completion. To be HSE-approved licence holders, we must hold to the highest level of competence and undergo continual assessments to ensure we maintain our skills, knowledge and best practices throughout every project.
What does AMI Membership mean for your project?
The Asbestos Management Institute (AMI) is a joint venture between the Asbestos Removal Contractors Association (ARCA) and the National Federation of Demolition Contractors (NFDC); these two trade associations represent HSE-licensed asbestos removal contractors. Members of AMI are recognised as professionals within the asbestos removal management industry and are required to hold recognised qualifications in asbestos management and project leadership.
Licensed Asbestos Removal is one of the most tightly regulated areas of the construction industry and is subject to an approved code of practice and legislation under:
- The Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999
- Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012
- The Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.
Each of these statutory legislations must form part of any asbestos:
- Investigation
- Management
- Remediation
- Material removal.
The above sets out why retaining Starfish Environmental and Asbestos Services Division is critical, whether you are a building owner, property management company or surveyor when faced with a project where asbestos is a factor.
SEAS - providing turnkey asbestos solutions.
Addressing asbestos products within the fabric of a building is more than managing the environmental element; it is about safeguarding the health of anyone who can come into contact with one of the most dangerous substances in the built environment. In recent years, attitudes to how a building provides environmental credentials and its efficiency and safety for workers or visitors have improved.
At Starfish Construction, this is an area in which we add value and protection for our clients. The applicable regulations controlled by authorities across domestic and commercial buildings mean owners must ensure their building meets all legislation criteria. Fines and penalties for property owners are commonplace and threaten business survival if not followed. For many of our customers, it's not only a desire to meet legislation but an approach to deliver a best-in-class property that drives their environmental decisions.
Even today, exposure to asbestos and related medical conditions are still the single most significant cause of work-related deaths. Failure to meet your duties under regulations can have severe consequences, and criminal prosecutions are widely evident across many industries. The design of the applicable laws helps protect you and your employees and ensures that you meet your duty of care in assessing risk in managing Asbestos Containing Materials (ACMs).
Historically, manufacturers created around 3,000 products containing asbestos fibres. Although finally banned in 1999, inspections routinely find asbestos during building maintenance and renovations. Asbestos removal is a highly technical process, and Starfish Construction can offer you a licensed and professional turnkey service.
